Socially drink allows others to sink to a lower social functioning. Body language, eye gestures, voice tone & volume, social etiquette and convention goes out the window. I suck at these things naturally so I see alcohol as the great equiliser

That is why Friday night after work gives me half a chance with the the girl I like.

I've been drinking too much recently, too.  Doesn't bother me mentally, just physically.  Alcohol has always helped me cope.  I'm not much of an addictive personality, luckily, so I haven't gotten into much bother from it.

It also helped me loosen up enough to speak German well Saturday night!  I was just babbling away with some German tourists who sat down at the table next to us.  That was a good feeling.  Glad I haven't lost it - it's been two years since I've spoken it.

That's OK after "too many" you would stop gibbering so much. At some point the concentration would go into such physical feats as remaining upright and stopping vomiting.
Sometimes even prior to this stage the need to gibber ceases. I have seen it happen.
