Talking of fungus....I think I am overdue for a nice trip out in the woods. Need to get hold of a bit of AMT and some herb, then go out in a favourite local woodlands to scour the place for a free supper and breakfast. I love nothing better than spending all day out there, with just my backpack, a bunch of bags to put my harvest, a bottle of cold drink, my mushroom guidebooks (although having been self-taught since about age 5yo or so I know what I am looking for pretty well
), then once I'm satisfied and all tired out, go curl up at the base of a tree, nicely tripping and just watch the world go by, half asleep and relaxed, listening to the general sounds of nature, and/or maybe a bit of music on my MP3 player before I go home and cook up a nice wild mushroom omelet for supper, and more for breakfast.
Last year I got pretty lucky. Fly agarics, a big harvest of peppery boletes, parasol mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, sulfur polypore, oyster mushrooms, beefsteak polypores, oh boy, oh boy was I ever stuffed full to bursting :)And best of all, none of it costs a penny, other than for a bottle of coke, some dried chewy black pepper beef jerky, some trail mix/dried nuts and fruit, some cereal bars, and other snacks. Can't resist fresh passion fruit, or dried mangoes.
And there is a lovely little spanish tapas bar that I pass by on my way home from this particular forest, so I can stop by for a nice plate of battered calamari with lemon squeezed over it and a nice cold pint or three and a couple of shots of lamb's navy rum to relax my tired legs after all that hiking, tripping and sleeping
