Those are very nice numbers, McJagger.  You must be very proud of her.

I don't know, but my husband is a math genius and our daughter is somewhat gifted in math.

I don't know if I'm a 'genius' exactly but I have always been very fascinated with numbers.  But I never got as far as like Fractogronomics or whatever the hell that course was called
"run with a pack, not with a herd"

I can do mental arithmetic quickly an all, and do conversions and simple algebra etc in my head. I found maths easy at school, but wasn't that interested - later at uni I picked it back up as accounting and operational research were part of my degree. I always got bogged down in showing my working though (why is that the answer? i dont know how to show you, but it just is, ok? lol), and the theory tended to go over my head because I wasn't interested. there's definitely something reassuring about working with numbers though, they're less slippery and vague than words.

i get what you mean.

they always made you show your work and that always bogged me down as well.  i could easily do it in my head, but writing it out, like a sentence, killed me.

My daughter has the same problem with math in her school.  They teach "new math" where not only do you have to show your work, but you must find the answer several different ways and show your work for all of them, which drives her nuts.  She can figure out the answer but she sees no point in doing the same problem different ways after she knows the answer and the work is inside her head in many cases.

poor girl.  you want to try teaching this way - drives me bloody NUTS! i can't see the point of doing it that way, either.  oh, i can see that kids have to find what works best for them, but they're whizzed through each of the methods, without really consolidating any of them, and then end up hopelessly confused, and no better off than when they started.  and the kids like your daughter get frustrated and bored, etc.  grrrrrrrrr.

shush, Lucifer...  (otherwise, there's a 3 page rant waiting and raring to go...  ::) ).

Good for her!
it is well known that PMS Elle is evil.
I think you'd fit in a 12" or at least a 16" firework mortar
You win this thread because that's most unsettling to even think about.
