it wasn't actually identitytheft - they just thought it was and blocked my account.. Really annoying trying to sort it over the phone tho. This haas happened three times s far this year

Why three times? Is this bank really disorganized? What keeps happening to make them think your identity is being stolen?

it's when i buy cheap things off ebay from foreign countries. appparently when it's id theft they make a small purchase of a few pounds at first, to check whether it's working. and thats what theykeep thingking is happening

I can see why they blocked your account if they think you were a victim of identity theft, but it's still a pain to go through.

My husband had his credit card information stolen at a restaurant and the ring of thieves used the information to charge something in California, over 1000 miles away from here.  The credit card company called him to see if he had made that purchase and when he said that he didn't, they didn't charge him for it.  He went to the local police here and they uncovered that there was an identity theft ring and figured out at which restaurant his credit card number was stolen, since he wasn't the only victim.

I wonder if you could try something similar when you buy stuff on eBay?

I made a $400 purchase in Kaposvar, Hungary with my B of A card.  They didn't even question it, the bastards!!

Be glad they didn't mess you up, since you were the one who made the purchase.  My husband tried to buy a Kashmir rug for me in India using his Chase credit card and they refused to authorize the charge.  He tried to call them but the 800 number on the back of their card doesn't work in India.  So he asked me to call them from here for him, but obviously I'm not him even though I had all his information and was calling them from our home phone number, so they still wouldn't authorize it.  He wound up using another credit card to buy the rug, but he wanted to use the Chase one because it gave him frequent flier miles.
