Howard made me the lefty I am today.

On employment :-

So, we have the lowest unemployment figures since 1970-something.
If you worked 2hrs in the last fortnight, you are employed.
With the new workplace agreements, people's contracts have basically been ripped up and working hours have suffered. So, more people have jobs, but are working less hours.

It's a good way to get people off welfare. Just make them almost unemployed.
Well, you are obviously an Australian.  Who has been the best Prime Minister so far then?

I liked PK because he was a sarcastic bastard.

Gough Whitlam was simply awful, even after the governor-general sacked him, Labor got well and truly thrashed at the following election. I have to admit Bob Hawke as PM and Keating as treasurer made a good team.

PK was holding him up, was all.  That's why Bobby looked so good.

So the election is held on the 24th of this month.

Will we finally be rid of this hairy ballsack?

My vote is going to Greens or Reds, haven't decided yet.

I don't want to vote Labor in. That will mean the balance is tipped, the whole country will be Labor. One of them said that once they are in, they will change everything that they promised before the election.

I am stuck on knowing who to vote for. ???

Howard's been a reasonably ok PM for the last 10 or so years...FUCK. 10 years!? Yeah, time to get him out of office. Good or not, there's such a thing as a 'good change'. I think the Liberals need to be the opposition for a while.

I don't think having state and federal Labor governments will change much, the states don't always agree on things as it is, and the current state and federal governments work pretty well together.

I believe the statement i highlighted was actually meant as "when we are in power, any NEW policies we make will have nothing to do with the Liberal's agenda, unlike our pre-election policies, which are being made to coax Liberal voters to vote for us".

The most read and watched media in this country is pro-Liberal, so it should not be surprising that spin often goes their way.

I don't know because it has been a while since they were in. I may be just afraid of change. :P

I remember when I was younger and the "recession we had to have" and the interest rates being really high. My parents had to sell their house because of the interest rates, they had huge arguments over it and they divorced.

I know I can't blame all of that on our government, the effect of recession was worldwide. And there was the Gulf War too.

vodzy, I have thought about your comment too. And it makes it more confusing than ever because of the way things are filtered through the media. Also have to read between the lines when it comes to political statements and that makes it confusing as well.
