Were you initially shocked that oil paints can be left on the pallette for weeks withought drying up?

I thought that was kinda cool when I first used them.

They go a bit manky though, I must say.  I usually don't have much left on the palette, I do it pretty thickly.  But I do love that you can go back a couple of days later and manipulate the paint a bit more.  I love layering the varnish too...you know fat over lean, so you get a really beautiful lustre on it if you take your time with each layer.

Do you have any scannings of your work that you could post here?
Sounds like you do a great job.

I must admit I got a lot of pleasure out of popping the shell on oil paints left out, and getting to the fresh stuff underneith. Much like a pimple.

Yes, I have some scanned.  But I've worked on them since.  Will have to take some more pics.

No, I go shopping with a purpose.  Smash and grab.  Although I did go out on Saturday to get some bargains and I wandered around for ages....I have to be in the zone and alone.  I never go shopping with anyone, male or female, I get to focused on what I want to look at and frustrated if I can't leave when I want to.....

such a caring and sharing person I am.

Same here. I hate waiting on someone to leave and having to leave just because the person you're with wants to. My second BF feel asleep at a bookstore while I was there for four hours. Did the same thing to my mother at a Disney store in Paris and wore her legs out from standing and I was there for two hours and only bought a pair of 101 Dalmatians socks. Considerate eh?
Then she made me wait for her to rest on a bench after I was done in there.

You have any kids? If so, how old?

No, do you?

Nope.

I used to a lot when I was younger.  Now I like like true stories.  The last fiction book I read was The Da Vinci code...but really it relates back to some fact, so it's probably the reason I liked it.  The fiction book before that was The Shining by Stephen King...just because I never got around to reading it when I was younger.  Most of the fiction I read before that over the last 5 years would have been classic novels, not new ones.

i painted my first painting in a week and the oils didn't dry. couldn't have done it if the paint had dried.

But I'm really enjoying oil painting...mostly abstract...I've tried out all sizes... from miniatures to large...I have a really big piece that I'm working on at the moment.

i don't like acrylic, it sucks. i also like to paint semi-abstract and espressionistic.

do you use lots of paint or thin layers? i like to use huge globs.

I wish that I knew what to wish for.

You've had 40 years...Lord help us.  I think greed for wishes to be granted is more your problem. :)

How about I wish for more wishes?
Even if that's all I keep wishing for.

ach.  don't start me on that book.  it started all the generic, semi-conspiracy theory twaddle off.  quite interesting in itself, but spawned all the hysteria which culminated in "the da vinci code" (a book i use to teach students how NOT to write, by the way).
