In some European countries, there actually is no age limit for drinking. In Germany, I think it's 14 to drink alcohol in a bar at least. In Sweden it's 18, though it's 20 to buy booze in a liqour store.

It's 21 here - but since I took my beard off, I probably look close to that.
I guess it's cool, but a few years ago, I had real troubles (no license) -
trying to get people to accept my birth certificate and other materials
as ID. Even got turned down for tobacco (18 is limit). Luckily, most
of the bars know me now, so I don't have to carry - but I almost got
turned away a couple of months ago.

Hm, you seem to have some cowardly laws in the US as well, in some cases even worse than we have. Tobacco just recently got the age limit of 18, but no one really cares and no one cares if you buy beer with less than 3.6% by weight in a supermarket and are below 18, that is the legal age for that kind of beer.

And it's still legal to watch child pornography here, it just isn't legal to save it on your computer!

That's highly illegal. Making your own booze was actually legal in Sweden in periods until 1860. You can still make your own beer and wine, though.
