Thanks callaway - well i don't think it's xenophobia really - I think the intention was just to keep it a fairly small site that wasn't as busy as some of the other international ones - and since I get the impression recognition of AS in britain seems behind the US in many respects there are less people aware of it, so there might be different issues that need discussing. It's like a small quiet village pub instead of a big mega-bar I suppose. 

But it is a bit annoying for me as it means i can't access from work since my work internet access comes via US routers

We eat chavs.  :evillaugh: I was thinking more the seedy ones on the edge of the city centre, full of dodgy characters, but with good beer, a pool table and Motorhead on the jukebox. :beergrin:

not my impression. i asked my psychologist about it and he said "no, it won't be that - that's a thing that's diagnosed in children i think. someone would've diagnosed you by now".
I asked if it would have been known back when i was a child, and he said "yeah - you weren't exactly born in the 50's."
Next week he came back and said he'd found out that it could sometimes get diagnosed in adulthood, but he didn't think i had it.
Also, I'd been to another (nhs) psychiatrist once, before i'd heard of AS, thinking i might have ADHD. He told me that condition had been made up by pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs.

There are places with better understandings than that I think, but it seems to vary around location, doctor, private/nhs.

I'm self dx-ed by the way, but am pretty sure of it, having met and compared experiences with several diagnosed aspies. Can't really see the point for met to get a professional dx now

What is your tolerance for adult content, conflict, and generally offensive material and conversation?  (Pretty much everybody considered the rape thread in bad taste, but i think we've talked about equally "evil" topics, at least unseriously, with no qualms.)

I got diagnosed without any difficulty, but then they tried me on antidepressants, which just messed me up.  Vallium would have been more appropriate, given that I was very anxious at the time from years of stress at school and university, and was having violent nightmares and stuff.  Recently, a psychologist I saw through the jobcentre identified dyslexia and ADD as problems, so I'm going back to the psychiatrist in a couple of weeks to see about getting something for the ADD.

pretty hard to offend really. I've enjoyed some twisted japanese movies. offensive stuff - depends if it's funny/clever/ironic really. if it's just lame or people are being dickheads then I'm not so keen but i like a good debate.
