Degree Of Separation
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:40:10 PM »
I asked someone  why they had vouched for someone

Reply was: have a reason to vouch for him, which I will summarise as; Degree of Separation = 1.

Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, "a friend of a friend" statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer. It was originally set out by Frigyes Karinthy and popularized by a play written by John Guare.

Quick example, as I under stand it.

Me
My mother
My mother's childhood friend
This friend's father was a footman in
The Queen Mother's household when she was the Duchess of York
Queen Elizabeth II
A good monarch is a treasure. A good politician is an oxymoron.

My brain is both uninhibited and uninhabited.

It appears that the person doing the vouching knows the other person directly, or perhaps as the friend of a friend,
and therefore feels qualified to attest to his credibility.  :chin:

I take it as meaning six steps from being Footloose, for which both Kevin Bacon and kenny Loggins should be shot.
