Built one of these.
But hey, how about a change of pace! Time for divergence from our normal?
Honestly, I have been so into steam for so long, but this guy actually built the largest ever made Road Locomotive from scratch. He is using his creation to break records using it as a traction machine for pulling farm implements.
A couple of years ago he used it to pull 36 bottom plows and last year he pulled 44 in one pass, multiple times.
This machine was made in 1905 and none of the original ones survived or even any parts existed when he got The Bug to build one. He had to start with the original blueprints and an IDEA, built a forge and did a lot of machine work, but finally got there.
A little research reveals that this was not built as a farm tractor, but a way to pull a road train from mine to forge to mill over dirt or gravel roads pulling huge numbers of heavy carriages with loads behind at about the speed of a walking horse, which carried many of the tools and dies made for the next phase of the manufacturing process.
