Since vitamin D3 is a hormone and we produce it, I sometimes wonder if taking it in pill form would somehow mess up our body's regulation of it? Yes, I have NO idea how it works. Those who do recommend it, recommend it in very high doses, which also makes me wary. Having said that, it has stopped coughs and colds from getting worse for me when I took vitamin D3 as soon as I caught a cough/cold.

we Brits are nearly always deficient in vit D, cos the body photosynthesises it from sunlight falling on bare skin.  In the colder half of the year there just isn't enough sunlight this far north , and we don't often expose enough skin anyway.

 off the top of my head (according to reading i've done in the past) it's a toxity is really, really  low as vitamins go, so it's advisable to err on the safe side and take too much rather than too little.

Thanks for the info Walkie. It was helpful. I know someone who took about 20000iu a day to build his up. Not sure whether he did the right thing or not. I'm guessing he did as with some vitamins and minerals you build them up in your body by taking a little too much first. Like iron.

I take 1000µ of vitamin D every day. It's mixed in with calcium and some minerals.

actually vitamin d can cause calcium metabolism to go about overactive if you don't balance it with vitamin k2, another amazing fat soluble vitamin.
