I think you are great and the PR is lucky to have such a cool mum. :)

What everyone else said.  I am glad you're housed right now.

The PR asked me to watch Brave with her.  When I realized the plot, I interjected some reassuring words about moms and daughters and kept cuddling with her.  I think it did a world of good.

Two 30 yard construction dumpsters of crap have been removed from the house, with an additional half dumpster of ruined furnishings.  The dumpster for the demolition is ready.  Demolition is waiting on permits and will probably start on Monday.

I admire you QV. :) PR is lucky indeed to have such a cool mom.

Sounds like there are no big surprises in the process?

I hope PR feels okay soon...change can be scary, especially when you accidentally cause it..but it's natural, inevitable, and many times beautiful. Hopefully she'll see the good side of it soon enough.

Holy shit! How did I miss all of this. my little friend.
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

Just a quick drop by (as opposed to a drive-by (shooting)).  The house has been cleared of all personal items and furniture.  Gutting has begun and should be finished tomorrow or Thursday.

I'm continuing to throw away things (six boxes down to three of stuff I needed to decide on) and two pieces of furniture on the carport.

The PR is emotionally up and down.  We're having a Christmas ornament party on Saturday.  Some friends are coming and we're going to make ornaments for our tree.  I went through my craft stash and pulled a lot of ribbons, sequins, jewels, etc.  I'll pick up some plain ornaments and some plastic flower/plant thingies.

Somehow the cable has been a disaster.  We've had 3 visits and can't get it fixed.  Now we have no cable at all when PA tried to set something up that the customer is supposed to do quite simply.

Put the old lady grocery cart wheels on (used paper clips for the missing cotter pins) and it works quite well.

Things are slowing down for a bit.  Then we'll start dealing with the insurance company, picking a contractor, etc.  That's the uber exhausting part.

Thanks for all the good wishes and thoughts.

Good to hear things are progressing...I hope the ornament party is a success. A good way to make new memories - maybe PR will enjoy it. Also, good luck dealing with the insurance company.  :santa:

Okay, it's official.  I HAVE THE BEST HUSBAND IN THE WORLD.

We got the insurance check and supporting costs for the structure damage.  There is about $90,000 of damage, but we don't have replacement coverage as I thought.  The insurance company depreciated the settlement down to $43,000.  The PR will pay our $1,000 deductible.  PA merely said, "Let's see how we can shuffle the money to get more of what we need."

I am blessed beyond belief.

Because the house was built about 1964.  The theory is that the homeowner shouldn't be enriched for the use they've had the house for, like car insurance.  For example, our roof is 20 years old and our HVAC is 15 years old.  Those are big ticket items.

They do cover the increased value due to real estate prices in determining the maximum amount to be paid.  We paid less than $60,000 includingd the land. So $43,000 isn't unreasonable, just an unpleasant surprise.

We never thought to buy increased (non-depreciated) coverage.

We will.  This is the beginning.  We'll get 2 contractor quotes and if anything is found by them it can be brought to the insurance company's attention.  I've found two items (small) that need to be upped.
