The crash would effect everyone, Odeon. I don't think that means what you think it means.

*Affect*.

What do you think I think it means?

What you said.

IMHO your credit rating *should* crash.

Do you understand how bad things would get if that happened? Or were you joking?

No, not really. I realise it's a Very Bad Thing, but it's about the principle. You shouldn't keep spending money you don't have.

Well this is true, but we're all here now. If the U.S. economy crashes, things are going to get shitty for everyone very quickly.

Yes. And it's worrying.

I would very much like to know what they plan to do about it. Not this arbitrary debt ceiling thing, but the actual problem.

IIRC, the Nixon administration did attempt to address the problem, and maybe Reagan.

I would like to know how much of the USA's debt represents interdependency and how much represents something unhealthy. For an individual, it's good if you don't have any financial debt, but for a company it's not. Why would a country be more like an individual than a company?

They are more like a company, of course, and you're right. But I do believe a lot of that debt is unhealthy. Can't be arsed to dig up the articles I've seen about it, though.

If they plan to do anything at all to make changes, we're sure being kept in the dark about it. Attitudes here are getting pretty sour.

Understandable.

Yet you have to make changes.
