PITTSBURGH —Women were encouraged to go topless on Sunday in order to advance women's rights.A handful of advocates, members of the "Go Topless" group, gathered in downtown Pittsburgh, saying women should also be legally allowed to be topless in public.Monday marks the 93rd anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the U.S., but protestors said women are still not treated equally."The point of this is to raise awareness of this problem. We have to have equal rights for men and women. If men are going to be able to go topless, women should be able to go topless without that stigma," said protestor Judith Sherwood.The protestors applied for a permit to demonstrate, but the city told them they didn’t need a permit. However, police and the city attorney warned protestors that there would be consequences if women exposed themselves.
