I struggled with the decision to seek diagnosis because of this mindset.

For as long as you have minors in your guardianship, an official diagnosis of mental disorder is a bad idea.

More of my naive optimism.   :facepalm2:  And a need for ADHD and anxiety/depression meds.

I'm afraid the alternative is assuming the role of an invalid and leaving everything to big brother.

Not saying a diagnosis is always used against the autistic parent, only that it potentially can be. There's no medical treatment for autism, only comorbids. Unless public assistance is needed, can't see what benefit it would provide other than personal affirmation. Just food for thought; of course you should do what's best for you.

Now making me remember this:
Some warn against it, as it's an offical diagnosis of mental disorder. Sometimes check out the AFF blog since the blue one shared it. They have a warning entry that deserves consideration. http://aspiesforfreedom.wordpress.com/2010/10/15/undiagnosed-members-please-read/

There are still tons of people who claim aspergers is a fairy tale.

Certainly that makes a great defense in the courts.

I suppose if it ever were an issue I could fake my way through a reevaluation.  (maybe)

An official diagnosis is a bad idea unless you get disability for it. It is of almost no use to have an official diagnosis.

That's true; remember reading a couple of people at wp who lost careers.

You don't have much of a choice if you're diagnosed as a child like I was.
Existence actually has two broad meanings despite its apparent meaningless. The constant reconciliation of all its parts, and the conservation of any closed system as a whole.

Morality can be extrapolated from these meanings to make these two commandments of godless morality: 1). Be in harmony with one another and 2). Care for the environment.

Of course not. Have not only seen adults seeking affirmation, but also a bit of pressure from the autistic community, aspie wannabees and such. It's very important for some who have never belonged anywhere to feel they belong among autistics; that can be a great thing. Still, whenever encountering a self-sufficient parent seeking affirmation, it's hard not to mention their risk.

Sorry, AspieMomma. Completely misread the tense of your original post. Been misunderstanding a lot lately. Thought you were currently struggling with the idea, and weighing the pros/cons. My point is moot.
