We are supposed to have sub-zero temperatures later this week, according to the morning news. Just the other day the newspapers claimed the summer would return for a short stint.

Also during the day?

Here they are warning for frost at night.

Weather's just lovely here (atm). Sunny, almost no wind and p/m 12°C.

Bofkont, sorry, bof-bibs. :P

Hier is het grijs, en het heeft even geregend.

Heehee, bofbibs. Well, yes, I am. :lutra:

Even the garden robin was cheerful whilst I was trimming the hedge this afternoon.

~

And 'mog' isn't correct, Lit. If you were to express you don't like rain you could say: 'Ik hou niet van regen.'  Or hate it: 'Ik haat regen.'

~

It stayed sunny and the T went up to 15°C. News on StuBru (radio) mentioned sunny/17°C for tomorrow.

It was below freezing when I woke up this morning, it's 33°F now at 9:40 AM and it's supposed to get up to 73°F this afternoon.

Ja, you're right.. 'we' have a verb like the German mögen: i.e. 'mogen'.. but than it would be something like this: 'Ik mag haar graag.' (in present tense/I really like her). 'Mocht(-en)' in past tense. It's not used with rain though.. but I cannot explain this properly now.

'Mogen' is also used for the English 'may/might' (Mag ik je wat vragen?/May I ask you something?) but.. ja..

Ah, it is mag in present singular despite the verb being mogen and not mögen. Jaja  :nerdy:

Yes. Well, it's a tadski more complicated. *Um..

*Could go on about it.. for ja, I'm an AS dude with a bit of a passion for languages (a bit like you probably) but to explain basic grammar stuff concerning my own (beloved) language maybe goes a tadski 'too much info I²/anybody doesn't really care for/about'.

Oh, I have studied both German and Netherlands at the university, but I have forgotten most of the Netherlands.

Mögen is a modal auxilliary verb.

In German it is:

Ich mag
Du magst
Er/es/sie mag
Wir mögen
Ihr mögt
Sie/Sie mögen

Mochte
Möchte
Gemocht

 ;)

"Mogen" in Dutch, when used to express that you like or dislike, is mainly used for people.
Belgians more often use "Dat mag ik graag" for none people than the Dutch though.

Mostly, the verb is used to express what is, and isn't allowed. But, it can be used imperative, in a polite way, too.

Guess it is one of the verbs that is the hardest to translate to German, for Dutch beginners in that language,

"Mögen", "leiden können", "erlaubt sein", "durfen", "können", "sollen", all those are an option, in the right context.

It's cognate with English "may" and Swedish "må", but both those verb have a pretty different meaning. "Må" is a pretty archaic verb in Swedish, btw, although it's possible to use it in spoken everyday language.

Finally did what I have been postponing for days, tackle my side of the Spiraea hedge.

Blazing sun, clear blue sky, little bit of wind, and 13ºC.
