Freezing temperatures. It's supposed to snow tomorrow.

top tip - pouring boiling water over the door lock and heating up your key with a lighter often does the trick. ;)

drizzle, 2C/35F

Above freezing supposed to rain

It wasn't the key tumblers that were frozen.

It had rained for most of the day, then snow, then a deep freeze. There was a dam of "ice plating" holding all the doors shut. I drive a mini-van (Ford Windstar) and I could manage the leverage to pry open the tailgate, after busting loose a half inch thick layer of the stuff, and crawl in from the rear. Even when I got to work my (NOT insubstantial) shoulder took several slams to get the driver door open from the inside.

And then, when all roads are blocked, Jack Nicholson will come with an axe.  :autism:

We did have trouble driving to school with the all the accidents on the interstate.

We took an alternate route, which was also considerably slower due to the snow, and were an hour late arriving.

Right now it is 9° F (-13° C), so the roads are probably very slippery even with the mixture of salt and sand they use on them.

I hope they aren't too bad when we drive on them later today.

Obviously, I have to keep my locks well lubricated in this climate. The issue yesterday was not the locks themselves, but the quarter inch of ice plating on my car that had to be chipped away. Often when the weather changes that fast we have downed power lines in some places, but even with the drizzle, there was enough warmth from the sun as the "norther" blew in with heavy winds and very cold air, that most things in the open were drying before they froze. My car was stupidly parked in the shade of the neighbor's house, protected from the wind and getting no help from the cloud covered sun as the temperature dropped.

Right now, it's fourteen degrees Fahrenheit (-10 C) out there and I have to see the kids to the bus stop in a few minutes. They actually like bundling themselves up for winter, though. I'm lucky.

My doors freeze shut on the rubber gaskets around the edge of them in freezing rain
