You're all aspies, and game-modding is a pretty aspie endevour to take on (requires insane perfectionism, as it usually requires taking on detail-work normally delegated to entire teams of well-paid employees)
Currently I am reworking the strategy game Hearts of Iron 2, since the whole game relies on textfiles and simple image sprites.
The game is a WW2 strategy game, with an impressive selection of playable countries. I am making the selection even more impressive, by turning it into (the only existing) modern-world-game where
nearly all real life nations are possible to play.
This game is not like Civilization tho, and selecting Jamaica, for example, means you are doomed to pretty much do nothing, ever.
But there will be an option! To play Jamaica! In a complete modern world strategy game! No such game exists! I am making it
Besides, Jamaica
does nothing irl, so it would be totally realistic
You can obviously play superpowers, and as these you will be able to do much more, needless to say, but I like to have the option! The option to select Somalia, or Turkmenistan, or South Korea (you can try to invade the north, I have made them allied to China. SK has no allies, since the game has quite rigid mechanics, and I wanted to let NATO be NATO, so SK unfortunately cannot be part of that alliance.)
There are a very few nations that I cannot afford to create, due to a limited ammount of possible nation slots, but these are minor island-nations (Sao Tome, non-american Samoa and St. Lucia) as well as nations that do not have global recognition (Kosovo, Somaliland (not to be confused with Somalia))
Other than that, it will have a staggering, unprecedented ammount of selectable nations.
I also tried to mod Fallout Tactics once, using the in-game editor, but fuck, that was a pain in the ass, so I gave up.
Civilization 3 was a piece of cake to mod, through the editor, and I would create awesome Israel vs Palestine maps, also a huge Korean war map, I would tweak nearly everything, I would change the "Mechanized Infantry" unit into APCs with carrying capacity, duplicate certain units - for example allowing Israel to have "Cruise missiles" while using the same unit, but with different name and stats as Palestines unique "Qassam" etc.
Morrowind was relatively easy to play with with the attached editor, but since I don't have a 3D graphics editor - or any patience to learn using one, I was left re-using allready existing models, and giving them new stats. For the most part I created in-game books, for my own damn amusement, about my own damn adventures, which I then travelled from town to town putting them in various book-shops. For no goddamn good reason
