That makes no sense.

Did you NEARLY see your dog get hit by a car - meaning that your dog is most likely to be gravely injured, if alive at all and you were NOT watching it in traffic  -  or  did you see your dog ALMOST get hit by a car, because you were watching it,  which means that your dog is OK, right now?

If your dog is gone, then you have my empathy. I have lost a great many dogs in a great many of horrible deaths.

Sorry to hear about that guys... Mine had to be moved out because my sister is allergic to the dog... (pretty gutted).

She was nearly hit by the car while I was watching from upstairs.

(my stepdad accidentally let her out. she doesn't usually go off her lead near cars)
