"About the lowly
no-one may complain,
because it's the powerful,
whatever they may tell you"

("Über's Niederträchtige
niemand sich beklage,
denn es ist das Mächtige,
was man dir auch sage.")

"The idea is to rescue myself from the role of a victim. That I have a choice left. Though I can't change what has happened, I can choose how to react. And I don't want to spend the rest of my life being bitter and locked up."

"Whenever I have been around people for a while, I can feel how I have gotten morally inferior, and it takes a while in solitude to get back to what I was before."

Seneca

(This one I simply must learn to express in Latin.)

This one you'll have to translate yourselves, because the beauty of it is lost to a great part by translating it:

"Det är bättre att täras med flammande hast
än att falna med tynande låge.
Det är bättre lyss till en sträng som brast
än att aldrig spänna en båge."

Verner von Heidenstam

Background on this.

This Spring the New Orleans Saints were severely disciplined for having a bounty system according the the National Football League.  That's where defensive players are given payments under the table for hitting opponents hard enough to cause injury. Anyway the organization was fined 3 million dollars, several players were suspended for several games or an entire season, the head coach was suspended for an entire season and forbidden to have ANY contac with anyone in the Saints organization.

That's a Saints answer to the head coach's suspension.  A billboard sized photo in the practice facility with one of his quotes.  Take that NFL.

And no, I don't think the Saints had a pay for injury scheme; no one was injured; the NFL refuses to release any evidence; other teams have pretty much said they sort of had the same thing; etc.

I wish you had sincerity enough to tell me whether Catherine would suffer greatly from his loss: the fear that she would restrains me. And there you see the distinction between our feelings: had he been in my place, and I in his, though I hated him with a hatred that turned my life to gall, I never would have raised a hand against him. You may look incredulous, if you please! I never would have banished him from her society as long as she desired his. The moment her regard ceased, I would have torn his heart out, and drunk his blood! But, till then - if you don't believe me, you don't know me - till then, I would have died by inches before I touched a single hair of his head!'

Couple of quotes from Michel de Montaigne:

> A man who fears suffering is already suffering from what he fears.
> Confidence in the goodness of another is good proof of one's own goodness.
> I care not so much what I am to others as what I am to myself. I will be rich by myself, and not by borrowing.
> Ignorance is the softest pillow on which a man can rest his head.

Um, those are copy/paste quotes from some site.. but I was initially searching for this one.. translated it myself now:

> Fighting against stupidity/ignorance.. one will always lose.
Solum certum nihil esse certi et homine nihil miserius aut superbius.
