Here's something I must tell you. I'm Lebanese as some of you know by now. But what many of you don't realize is that I'm not technically an Arab. A Lebanese is not necessarily Arab even if we speak Lebanese Arabic.

Or if you didn't like that link (it may not be objective), just Google for other sites expounding on this. It makes more sense judging from my family name that I'm of Phoenician/Canaanite origin. It's very similar to a Hebrew name that I spot in the Bible.

Agreed. I don't understand heritage, or staying true to ones roots/culture, or anything like that.

I've never cared about my heritage.  I don't like the idea of being part of a lineage; I'd rather be a fresh individual with my own thoughts and accomplishments.  In some ways ancestry can be interesting, but I don't like the idea of taking "pride" in your heritage.  Actually I don't like the idea of taking pride in anything, since by the implications of determinism both pride and shame are illogical.

No such thing as a fresh individual. It's not determinism, it's just that you are surrounded by all kinds of influences, from heritage to genes to society to just about everything. You can't not be affected. Just the way it is.

Ohh, that's what confused me. I saw the message from a "Khaled" first and thought that was supposed to be you, but then that was the person who had put up the page, not the person who was writing in. So I didn't get what your point was about heritage.
