My gut reaction was "Eli Lilly".

Then I thought about it and my answer now is... "Eli Lilly".

Eli Lilly and competitors.

Eli Lilly sounds better. :P
Eli Lilly agrees with you.

Scary, isn't it?

A very good friend of mine is a chief scientist at Eli Lilly. He doesn't agree.

I hope he doesn't agree with Eli Lilly, I guess he doesn't agree with Eli Lilly being scary.

He says they aren't scary but they are secretive because that is the nature of the business.

I had a good friend working at a firm where they also did the final testing of medicines on humans. She did not trust that department at all. and told me that if I ever got desperate for money, going there would be the absolute last thing to do. She'd rather hand me a thousand than see me enter the doors there.

Other friend of mine made being a guinea pig there a "regular" source of income.

re: Eli Lilly- TBH that's my assumption re: the relevant parts of the FDA.  Who would make the right bribes to make sure that drugs do or don't get approved is a pretty intuitive.

There's a lot of different departments.  Actually doing a little bit of research I was more wondering about the USDA than about the FDA.  Virtually every single food item you buy here has nutrition labels that relate the nutrients in the food to what percent of said nutrients the UDSA recommended daily allowances.  It's something I think most people take for granted as "must be right," and I question who paid who to make Americans eat more of what.  And, who bribes who to keep it that way or to tweak it.

Apparently I need to educate myself more on the gigantic convoluted system that governs me and freaks me right the shit out the more I learn about it.

You can easily do that where I live only two towns away from Yale University.  My kids have done studies for extra money and I even signed up for one.  My daughter did one that was just an interview,  my son they hooked him to an EEG and he played video games I was to get an MRI but could not make it on the day of the scan.  Craig's list always has a bunch listed.

I'd love to have my brain scanned, how much money might I make?  :nerdy:

Freaks you out in what way? Are you or anyone you know experiencing the dreaded and more likely imagined consequences of going along with what the governmental institutions prescribe or whatever?

Ah the board that controls what constitutes Ok in food production and distribution and advertising and what is Ok when it comes to alcohol and tobacco.

I heard that in America that most of the big tobacco and liquor barons lobby agencies to gain favour and have their way and what they can't get through such agencies directly they get by hefty donations through political parties for favourable concessions. From this understanding laws are bent if not broken and the agency loses its teeth or effect?

Truth in that? Just what I heard. Sounded about right, knowing what little i do of human nature and its fraility when political power is thrown in the mix.
Alcohol and tobacco are controlled by the BATFE.

And so are the firearms I've come to love so dearly!   :litigious:

Depends on the country what medication is allowed and considered safe. Who makes the guidelines, why are they the way they are, and who benefits from the guidelines as they are.
This reminds me of what I found out about the antidepressant I take. Edronax (reboxetine) is not approved in the US but it is here. Usually it is the other way around. There are a number of medications for ADHD (three that I know of) that are available in the US but are not approved for use here.
Yup. Just checked on Edronax, available in Belgium, but, a quick glance seemed to show that it is not available in the Netherlands.
We don't have the amount of ADHD meds they have in the USA either.
Edronax has a bad reputation for treating depression (but I seem to be doing ok on it) but some have indicated that it is quite a good drug for ADHD-inattentive type. It seems to be the equivalent of the much more expensive Strattera (also an NRI), which could be why Eli Lilly lobbied the FDA to prevent Edronax from getting into the USA. Hmm. It is Pfizer that makes Edronax.
