^ That's a serious lot of baking. I'd like to try the pumpkin pie as I've never had it before.

So far all I've done is eat breakfast and take meds.

A bit more clearing, all the dishes in the sink washed and started a box for containers and lids to be matched up when I finish clearing.  The retaining bar on a shelf in the refrigerator escaped from it's holders.  Everything fell on the floor, but nothing broke or spilled out.  I'll have to look into reinserting it tomorrow.

Did a lot of Christmas baking for my family and the company my mother invited over tonight. Carrot cake with agave nectar, pumpkin pie, nanaimo bars, rice krispie squares. Then used baby bedtime as an excuse to hide from the company as soon as I could get away with it.
Nanaimo bars is my weakness in life  :plus:

I did not know what this was so, google to the rescue.

I found a number of recipes, the most complicated sounds like a "piece o' cake" to me.

I am always looking for simple recipes to try with my son. My daughter is way past simple at this point, but my son is still kind of dipping his toe in the waters.
This would be a great next project for him, with my guidance, of course.

Should I take that as a reccomendation, miss K?

What ARE nanaimo bars?

Know whats cheap and shit easy to make? oat flapjacks. Just need golden syrup, ginger root powder, sugar, butter, rolled oats, dark sugar, and it's pretty much a matter of throw it in a pan, stir it for a while on the heat, melt together, pour into baking trays to mold it into a sheet, cut into bars or slabs, and then eat.

Very tasty, very simple, cheap, and once you start, its hard to stop. My uncle would be dismayed if I didn't make him some for xmas, it's kind of a tradition. Easiest way to his heart is through his stomach. (he isn't fat, he just likes good eating and lots of it). Definitely tasty though. Takes maybe half an hour, including everything from getting the ingredients out, weighing them, finding a pan, finding a lighter to light the gas, cutting the butter into slices so it melts quicker, getting the RUBBERIZED PLASTIC big baking spoon, because I am not using that fucking heinous-textured wooden abomination. I'm not touching that without gloves. Ew. Just...its WRONG. It's about as wholesome, right, and in line with that which is good as a pus and vomit popsicle.

Nanaimo bars are a Canadian specialty. You can't get the vanilla custard powder that they require, in some parts of the USA. When I visit there, I have to bring it.

They may be simple but they have three layers and that is complicated enough that my mother is too lazy to make them, even though she loves them.

We have an agreement though. She does the cooking, I do the baking. She is not too lazy to make a delicious Christmas dinner.

Yes!!! :green:
Eating a jar of nutella with a fork.
Why a fork? A spoon seems more logical. I love the smell of Nutella but the taste of it doesn't agree with me.

Today I baked some cookies and cream cupcakes to take to my sister's tomorrow. The icing looks dodgy, nothing like the picture on the packet. So I sprinkled some mini choc drops on them. For some colour as they are different colours like Smarties are.

Took Kayleigh to the train station so she's going to her friend's place tonight for Christmas Eve dinner. Picked up my friend from the hairdressers, then went to her house and decorated her backyard. It looks very Christmasy now. I'll see her next on Boxing Day.

when I lived in GA, my Gram would spend 6 months of the year with us over the winter and she always brought enough Bird's so she could make Nanaimo bars whenever she needed too. Clearly, she had her priorities in order

Today has been diamond Painting. 2.5 hours so far today. It's a tedious, time consuming super detailed piece so I can only do it for short bits and then I keep having to take breaks.
