Test Drive Unlimited 2 was badly botched, and SimCity 5 never got made. Most of these newer games focus too much on being like Hollywood-style movies and are just copycatting each other again and again. Where's this innovation and growth that the execs of EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, etc are bragging about so much? Oh look, Modern Warfare 2.1 3, it's gonna have new guns and modes! YAY!!!! Oh look, Skyrim! It's gonna have a HUGE world and hundreds of hours of gameplay! YIPPEE!!! ::)

Maybe I'm just missing something here? According to Schleed, I'm just a butthurt retro hipster. Go ahead and think that. I don't think they'll be making another game like Rollercoaster Tycoon again. :wanker:

That's between you and Schleed, nothing to do with me.

It is true that todays games are often derivative of other games, but there's nothing new in that. Most of the older games copied other old games.

Yes, so are most RPGs. The fact that Fallout wasn't set in a LOTR style world is one of the things that I liked most about it.

I would love to see a bit more variety in RPGs.

i wanted to find the first advertisement poster for Fallout
(but whatever i enter, including advanced search, it finds me New Vegas stuff... someone else try, please. my blood pressure cant handle it... )

it explicitly points out being a "classic rpg, without the magic and potions and crap"
its such a good point :D

The issue is that the gaming industry are copying Halo over and over again while letting "niche" genres like city builders and real-time strategy games die out.

And Halo sucks ass.

Yes, I do wish there was a good city builder. Cities XL is a good game, but it gets far too slow as you build a decent sized town. CivCity Rome is crap, and Tropico is not really a city builder.

Monte Cristo, the developers of Cities XL went out of business, the series was taken over by one of its distributors, Focus Home Interactive (they used to develop/publish Trackmania), they made a Cities XL 2011 version, but it had only slight improvements (like an expansion pack) and it was offered at a 50 percent discount to Cities XL owners. And they're coming close to releasing Cities XL 2012, but that will just have minor improvements as well, it seems like. More buildings, mainly. Whoopee. Still will have major performance issues that many of the players (all ten of them) have been complaining about. Lazy ass developers. Why did they even fucking bother? At least they're promising modability on the 2012 version. Meh.

I'd say SimCity 4 is the only city-builder worth playing. Good thing it can be run just fine on Windows 7 "64-bit" on a newer computer.

Yes, yes you are. You are also basically a complete hipster when it comes to music, all "I only like obscure bands that rarely anyone heard of". :zoinks:

Hipsters never admit to being hipsters however.

Yes, it's the 2011 version that I have. 2010 never worked at all for me. I won't bother with 2012 unless I hear that it runs much faster than 2011. Slowness is one of the things I hate most in games.

Shame, because I really do think it's a good game, and if it wasn't for the issue with speed would be a decent successor to SC4.

I listen to (along with obscure bands) Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, the Scorpions, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, those sure as hell are not obscure. So I am not a hipster. The difference is that I acknowledge the underground scene and am not a complete brainless moron when it comes to music.

And you listen to some rather obscure shit yourself, so you're being a hypocrite. :orly:
