I get told the following, a lot

"Why don't you switch off your computer and get a REAL life?"
and
"Get some REAL friends"

Why is the internet not real?   I communicate with people all the time online,  why aren't they real?  I like
to speak to people via my keyboard,  just like i like to text people rather than phone.

Why do some people have a problem with this?

"It's not safe"
Well maybe some aspects aren't.  I think it's a lot safer than meeting strangers in a bar or something!

 The people who say that sound like the same kind of people who think chatroom always = cybersex.
 They pride themselves on using their computers only for e-mail and Travelocity.com, and they find
 most online communication to be somehow sleazy and suspect.  It's their loss!    :2thumbsup:

Im still trying to decide how real this is. It is somewhere between an interactive computer game, and real life for me :)

Well, our conversations are real enough. Even if they are words on a screen. For some people, written communication is all they have. I guess the reason people say online isn't 'real' is that people tend to make up their own online personas and keep their RL personas separate.

Still, I'd much prefer to have people like you lot to talk to than run accross some dickheads IRL.

I have a "real" life, and I have "real" friends.

They're the "reason" I switch on the computer. :zombiefuck: :P

As for safety...breathing isn't 100% safe either, maybe people should stop doing it.  :LOL:
