Yeah that second video is more accurate. I have seen footage where they pass the current through the patient's brain while the patient is still awake. But they don't do it that way any more.

After the first ECT treatment I had I was really sore all over the day after it. They hadn't given me enough muscle relaxant. Then when I had the fifth one (I think) I had a seizure that lasted over five minutes and it scared the doctors. They asked me questions when I woke up like did I know where I was and what was my name and all that. I had a total of eight treatments.
