I need to attend a meeting where one particularly fanciful individual will hold court. He doesn't *know* anything, he doesn't listen, he doesn't have anything useful to say. But he talks a LOT.

Maybe this time he will   :blah: :blah: :blah:   himself into a corner and embarrass himself!

He didn't. He simply talked, and talked, and talked, in blissful ignorance of his own monumental stupidity.

Too bad nobody feels empowered to shut down the babble.  :STFU:

Calling students on their crap.

I have students chatting away in one class and talking about anything except the readings and the class topics, and then wondering why they get no credit. At the beginning of the class I tell them - with examples - exactly what I expect, yet they still "don't understand" when they post responses they bought and don't get credit for them.

From a previous section of the class (just ended) I have a woman who posted her opinion that she didn't agree with my grading - all over the discussion board. She backed down when I hinted that this could be considered a code of conduct issue. But now she's back with a critique of my grading of an assignment. I told her she needs to wait until after final grading has been done. I am sure she will appeal. She is unaware of my 100% record in winning those appeals. Like most obsessive people, I meticulously check errors when grading and I always take points sparingly, so when I present the issues and the points that should have been taken, the appeals guy always backs me up. I do have to say that she's not on the best team in the class. But if she had not embarked on her campaign of harassment, I might have thought of switching her so that her grades didn't suffer for the poor performance of the team. I actually only thought of it yesterday. The class ended Monday.

In the other school I have a student who sent me a screenshot of why she could not get into tonight's seminar - she wanted to know if she still had to do the alternate assignment. The screenshot not only was blurred beyond recognition, but also she forgot to take out the time of the screenshot - 9:38PM. The seminar went from 7 to 8. The alternate seminar was from 8 - 9. Yeah, oops. She's blackballed.

And finally a student who says she could not complete the quiz because she had no internet access for three days - during which time she has been emailing me daily and asking other questions.

this has been a CBC entertainment rant

I like it.  Reminds me of a Breaking Bad moment.  One of Walter White's slacker
chemistry students is trying to talk Walter into giving him a passing grade despite the fact
that his test score was two points below passing.  He wheedles, he whines, he makes excuses.
Walter thinks about it, smiles slightly, appears to be softening ... then he gives his answer:

"Don't bullshit a bullshitter.  The answer is no.  Next time apply yourself!"  :heisenberg:

Most of the times I find motivational texts on walls a nuisance. But that one I do like.

Done two loads of machine washing, and a bit of handwashing today. New load is already in the machine. Will turn it on as soon as I've got place on the drying racks.

I have 4 drying racks and 3 outdoor lines.  Two are in the sun and one is under the garport roof.  Still I procrastinate on laundry.

Of course you do. Once the racks are filled, and there is a chance of rain, what else can one do but wait for the washing to fold itself when dry.

I actually prefer that I at least fold the laundry.  It's easier to catch what needs to be mended.

I don't even dislike it, but it takes so much time. I do part of it, and then something else comes in between again.

I don't mend anything, I just wear it till I have to throw it away.

I'd forgotten about the laundry.  I have that to do, plus inspecting every electrical cord in the apartment
to see if the scrap of hard rubber I found on the floor this morning is missing from something.

I am the mender in our relationship. My mother thought everyone should know how to sew.

However, the last bit of mending required both pliers and a needle and thread.

I don't see as much mending in my stuff, likely because I don't do laundry as often as I should. After all, if I don't change clothes for a few days that's finally when it gets comfortable.

I was not looking forward to the shot today, but it's over now.
