The elderberry flower syrup I just made is excellent.
The batch of last week, the flowers were still a bit too young to give full flavour.
Now I've got a great amount of perfect cordial. Just enough pollen to give it colour and taste, flowers just mature enough, and elder not in bloom long enough to be completely insect infested.

This is a pleased bovine here.

Elderberry flower syrup sounds delicious. What do you make with it?

I'm using a recipe that does not need boiling. Makes it less durable, but the taste is more fresh, IMO.

It's simple, nice amount of elderberry flowers. (10 clusters of flowers at least, I use a lot more) 1 kg of sugar, 1 liter water, and the juice of a lemon, or a table spoon of citric acid.

Leave it to steep in a covered container for 24 hours, with occasional stirring if you like)

Then it is time to sieve and bottle it, maybe after adding a bit more water, if not all the sugar has dissolved.

It's great to drink diluted with water, or bubble water.

There are lots of other recipes to be found. I want to try another one that needs boiling, to get myself some syrup that lasts longer.

She's arranging your surprise BD party.

Thinking that I'm going to have three days off next week.  :2thumbsup:
Three?

Wow. What is the occasion?

I'll only have the day off on Thursday, but, since I'm not working on Fridays at the moment (apart from this week and last week) I'll be having a nice couple of days off in a row too.

We're going to London for four days. Flying tomorrow.

And yes, everybody has the day off on Thursday here, too, and the above should say four and not three.

Have fun. Bring an empty suitcase with you, for all the books and goodies you can't resist to buy.

I will. My daughter wants to bring two. :P

If it is because she wants to buy clothes and stuff like that, then two empty suitcases is all she needs to pack for the trip.

You haven't known true horror until you've waited for hours for your daughter to emerge from Victoria's Secret on Bond Street.

I am so blessed with daughters who dislike shopping. (Apart from shopping for books, that my oldest can do for a very long time, and visiting DIY stores, for cool gadgets)

I *hate* shopping.

Except for Foyle's for Books, of course.

I like going for a bread to the bakery in my village. I love shopping for books. I like walking over a market, with lots of fruit and fabric stands, because the colours are nice, and people are easy to ignore in open air. Like that enough to remember the Campo di Fiori in Rome as a favourite place.
But actual shopping, I hate it.
And, now that I work in a thrift store, I can almost completely do without. I just happen to bump into the things I need.

Markets can be tolerable, if there is enough space.

Space and enough air to breathe are essential to survive.

Somehow I can experience humans as if they are a river, when on a market. They all flow in the same direction, and their sound becomes a uniform mumble.

I can survive crowds but they do stress me out.

A standing crowd I find a lot harder to deal with.

I can deal with a lot, but there always is an aftermath. And if I don't take my time for that, I will very likely fall ill.
