I very much doubt anyone would sue me, but who knows? Not that I know why they'd sue.

Cause you pissed them off, why else do people sue?  :P

Europe has not been completely americanised yet. So, the suing culture has not been fully ingrained yet.
But, we're getting there. And it is making things less fun.

Odeon, better write that book soon, in ten years they would probably sue you.

Me too.

I have a presentation to write but I seem to have logged on here instead.

We can help with the presentation. Talk to anyone who has ever taken advice from us. :P

Or he can just do nothing, and tell them his gopher ate his homework.  :zoinks:

I'm almost done now, though.

The cinema has, for obvious reasons, been on my mind a lot, lately. I have been thinking about writing a book about my festival years. I have a lot of material to pick from, and I'd probably manage to make a lot of people angry.

That sounds awesome.  Are you going to do it?  >:D

Yes, I want to. It remains to be seen if I actually do it.

You're right. We don't have quite that culture, yet.

Really?

Sweden is being americanised.

Same is true for the Netherlands. And the effects of the suing culture are already noticeable. Ten years ago, I would have been able to hire the gym for a kids party, and they would help me set things up, to make it a safe and fun playground for toddlers. Now they are not allowed to help setting things up, because they do not want to have the risk of getting sued, in case a kid trips and breaks something. So, there is no professional help, the situations will be less safe, but, the council hiring the place out will be safe from suing.
Sucks.
More of that is happening now.
Our politicians are looking a lot to big America on how to do things. Wanting to fit in things from the American culture, thinking it will not change the things that make our culture work. It does make things different. And big time too.

It's happening everywhere and it's not a good thing.

The US is a fantastic country but it isn't all there is.

What I find hard is how politicians think they can just implement what they like, in a different setting. It is like doing a cross-species transplant. One cannot just take one thing from a culture and implement it in a totally different culture, just like that. And then hope it will not change what works well in that culture.

I'm thinking about getting myself a professional hearing aid. Some sort of plugs that will not help me to hear better, no.. I'd like a pair that mutes noise out. I know there are good ones to be purchased that are specially made to 'comfortably' fit my ears and will tone down certain areas of noise or sound.

See, at the moment my hyperacusis is again really bugging me and even the radio on low volume isn't pleasant to listen to.

Um, in the thread 'name one thing you'd like to change about yourself' I probably would've mentioned something about me wishing not to be so überly sensitive for noise.. or sutin', I think.

@ Lutra

I wonder how comfortable they will be. And I would love to hear more about it. (well, read, not hear) I hated earplugs, because of the pressure it brought, and because of the reinforcing the sounds of my body. A sibling of mine passed out during the fitting process of customised things for his ears. He could not deal with the pressure.

What I find even harder is how people inject American expressions in their everyday speech. They are killing their language and not even caring.

And, of course, the Americanisms, the poorly translated expressions, especially those by sports journalists (who should all be killed to save whatever little there is left of our written language).

I should start a thread about sports journalism.

RE Hykey:

I had them fitted for me personally p/m 20 years ago and I cannot recall if I had problems with the pressure during the fitting procedure. Wore them a couple of times back then and they did help a bit. The issue I had with them was hygiene related but I'm way less a germ-phobe than I was back then and I'd clean them better nowadays, I think.

Going to look for options and prices soon. There is also a store in this city's center concerning ear/hear buggeries I could inform and get me some advice there.
