It was actually the least painful surgery I have had. When I got a lump removed from my knee that hurt a whole lot more.

The jaw surgery was part of orthodontic work I had done - braces for two years and the surgery in the middle of it. And I am reasonably pleased, it has done a lot for my self confidence to be able to smile without worrying about how bad my teeth look.

I'm glad it all worked out OK, you had to be  :viking:  but now you have your smile.

Would you believe I still have to wear my retainer a couple of nights per week to make sure my teeth stay straight. I really should go back to the orthodontist to ask how long I need to keep wearing it for. But it's just one of those things I keep putting off.

Retainers make sense though!  It would be a shame to lose the correction after all you went through to get it.  My own four top front teeth
have pulled ahead of the other top teeth a bit, creating small gaps in my smile, and I'm not thrilled about that.  Don't put off the orthdontist too long!   :viking:

I became violent after this surgery. When I woke up, the doc and nurse tried to stop me sitting up, and I felt real confused so I attacked the doctor.

Luckily I wasn't in top form so all he got was a shiner.

I was just nauseated when I woke up, and I knew I needed a bedpan to throw up in, and I couldn't speak,
so I drew a kidney shape in the air with my finger and the nurses understood!   :snowman:

I get panicky when I wake from recovery.

How many times have you been under anesthesia?   :orly:

Whatever it is, I could probably beat that number.

It's good to revisit this topic.  I'm wondering whether the pain in my jaw might be caused
by a late-erupting new wisdom tooth.  I only ever had two upper ones removed.  Does anyone
here have any idea whether it might be possible to have a wisdom tooth erupt at age 45?
Now that I have an appointment, I am fascinated!  :orly:

Yup, that's possible. There is no real age limit for wisdom teeth as far as I know.

And I've heard of a man in his 60-ies getting wisdom teeth.
