Why doesn't the bloody phone ring? :GA:

Chances are that if it does, it will either be a boy with a breaking voice asking if your daughter's home or a salesman trying to sell insurance.
A good monarch is a treasure. A good politician is an oxymoron.

My brain is both uninhibited and uninhabited.

The kid doesn't need to in this day and age of mobile phones.

Dear Abby passed away today

Pauline Phillips, better known to millions of newspaper readers as the original Dear Abby advice columnist, has died after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, her family said Thursday.

She died Wednesday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at age 94.

Phillips' columns were published in an era when newspaper readers began to prize straight-talking, pithy advice about marriages, children, jobs -- just about anything that troubled people.

Phillips wrote under the pen name of Abigail Van Buren, shortened to "Dear Abby" in newspapers. "Abigail" was taken from the wise woman in the Old Testament and "Van Buren" was one of her favorite presidents.

The first Dear Abby column appeared in 1956, and Phillips solely wrote the advice feature until 2000, when she and daughter Jeanne began sharing the byline.

Jeanne Phillips took the column over full time in August 2002, when the family announced that Pauline Phillips had Alzheimer's.

"I have lost my mother, my mentor and my best friend," Jeanne Phillips said in a statement. "My mother leaves very big high heels to fill with a legacy of compassion, commitment and positive social change. I will honor her memory every day by continuing this legacy."

Pauline Phillips strove to say more with less. Her direct style was captured in her favorite Swedish toast, according to the column's syndication service:

"Fear less; hope more. Eat less; chew more. Talk less; say more. Hate less; love more."

What was your favorite Dear Abby advice............

Adam's apple

The Adam's apple (technically known as the laryngeal prominence) is a feature of the human neck and refers to the lump or protrusion that is formed by the angle of the thyroid cartilage surrounding the larynx.

The structure of the laryngeal prominence forms a bump under the skin that is larger in adult men, in whom is clearly visible and palpable. Nevertheless, women also have it, but in most of them, the bump is not visible and is hardly perceived on the upper edge of the thyroid cartilage.

The meeting point of the union of the two portions of the cartilage, forms an acute angle (of about 90°) in men, while in women, an open arc (of about 120°).

Although both sexes have it, Adam's apple is considered a a characteristic feature adult men, because its size tends to increase considerably during puberty.

Its development is considered a secondary sexual characteristic of males, that appears as a result of hormonal activity. Its level of development varies from individual and the widening of that area in the larynx can occur very suddenly and quickly.

The Adam's apple, in conjunction with the thyroid cartilage which forms it, helps to protect the walls and the frontal part of the larynx, including the vocal chords (which are located directly behind it).

Another function of the laryngeal protuberance is related to the deepening of the voice. During adolescence, the thyroid cartilage grows together with the larynx. Consequently, the laryngeal protrusion grows in size mainly in men. Together, a larger soundboard is made up in phonation apparatus, and, as a result, the man gets a deeper tone.

Found this really cool game

http://www.recordtripping.com/

Record Tripping is a nifty experimental game by Bell Brothers. You are invited to solve a series of puzzles by scratching a record with your mouse’s scroll wheel. Clever game play and a lovely interface make this online Flash game as fun as it is weird.

Blind With Hate

In today’s gospel, Herodias blinded with hate and anger, turned her daughter into a murderer. Was she so filled with hate that she would use her daughter as an instrument of revenge? How did she live with this?
Let us step back and take stock. When in our lives have we been blinded with anger and hate? How have hate and senseless anger hindered us from becoming loving and compassionate individuals?

Mother Theresa of Calcutta once said, “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.

It's a really nice gesture, but the newsbox announcement is a little freaky.

What's wrong with it? :-\

I think I'll log off for now. It's time for work, I suppose. The world will stop spinning without me.
