What the fuck is up with all of these "Alaska" shows??

First, there was Deadliest Catch, then there was Ice Road Truckers, then Alaska State Troopers, then the Alaska Atom Bomb went off and we have a dozen or so "Alaska" shows.

Is this some king of cynical plot by Alsakans to rake in cash or what?? let's see if I can make a list.

Deadliest Catch
Ice Road Truckers
Alaska State Troopers
Sarah Palin's Alaska
Flying Wild Alaska (although that can be forgiven since it's about planes)
Alaska Wing Men (again, forgivable due to airplanes)
Gold Rush Alaska
Wild Alaska

Is this even all of them??

My speculation: To the rest of the U.S., Alaska is like the last frontier!  :viking:

I remember seeing a few minutes of ice road truckers, and it just made me nervous

I dont even like my little car on ice, let alone a rig driving on ice SHEETS.

OK, so I was watching Alaska Wing Men today, and they showed a "rescue" of some hikers from a glacier at the base of Mt. McKinley.

So it shows this guy leaving the base in a DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter TURBOPROP.



Then it shows him taxiing on the glacier in an identically painted DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver with a RADIAL PISTON ENGINE



As the "rescue" progressed, the alternated between showing the 2 different planes.

If you were paying attention, it was actually pretty funny.  :laugh:

Oh, I guess even plane stars have stand-ins. 

I've learned to take the products of the Entertainment Industry with a major grain of salt.  Living in New Orleans, we're constantly on the lookout for the Louisiana Mountains, looking for the people who sell voodoo and call everyone "Cher".  And then there's the classic from a TV show about African bees.  When the Superdome first opened they had trouble cooling it.  Well the picture had the heroes attracting all the bees to cover a Volkswagen and drive it into the Superdome and turn the A/C down cold enough to freeze the bees, complete with frost.  I almost believe New York City is a small town of 10,000 people because of the lack of truthfulness of Hollywood.
