I paid out of pocket for a Shrink who works with the UCSF Autism Clinic who was recommended to me by an employee of the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute. I did not want any dx I might to be in anyone's computer network and possibly fuck with my employment prospects. She declared me definitely on the spectrum, but too high functioning to be Asperger's.

Cassanova, I find that absolutely intriguing as I have never, not even once, heard of anyone with a diagnosis like that, but I guess I've also never looked. Would you care to share your major struggles or what particularly made you 'too high functioning' to be declared Aspergers? Is your sociability learned? (Via things like studying body language, reading texts on expressions, rapport, etc.)

I completely understand the not wanting to be in anyone's network for employment prospects. Did you have a profession in mind, or is it just the over-arcing stigma that comes with certain diagnoses that has left you (justly) paranoid?  However, I have learned two things 1. Certain diagnoses can make you more apt to attain certain jobs I am interested in... Profiling and such. And 2. That I can walk in and walk out eventually with whatever diagnosis I please anymore, because I know generally more of what they (the psych*s) are looking for than they do in most cases. Have you ever attempted this?
The cult of Skelth? :-\
Would that be the members here?

Could be. Do *you* believe in Skelth? Do you accept him as your personal online saviour?

I attribute it to the fact that I was 48 years old at the time and that I may very well have been the oldest  high functioning person on the spectrum that she had met up to that point. Kanner's was pretty much what most of the English speaking shrink community was familar with until Dr Lorna Wing translated Dr Asperger's work into English in the early 1980s. I have made a lot of stupid mistakes in my life and try not to repeat the same mistakes. I do believe aspies learn from experience even if some things take longer. Finding a Dr that was even willing to meet with someone my age was a PITA. Also some autistic people I have met at the M.I.N.D. Institute are way spazzier than I ever was. Others seem to me like they may be able to adapt and get a decent job eventually. I recall getting paired up with an 18 year youngster for an exercise of describing things to each other and observing his nervousness and spazziness got me to thinking that I may have been like him at that age.

I am an electrician, Journeyman Inside Wireman, and had been doing so for 11 years when I met her. Prior to that I built exhaust treatment units for the semi conductor industry, worked on aircraft and submarine electrical systems and did some shit jobs in between. My Union Local is a fucking hen party. McJ might tell you the same about his.  :dunno: I was not looking for a dx per se just a professional opinion as to whether my suspicions were correct. Other than knowing for the sake of knowing an informal dx does not provide any monetary or other tangible benefits. I have a defined benefit retirement, a 401A and another retirement from the International aside from SSI when I retire.

Yes, I've PMed him on Facebook with some of the series-based videos and stuff from my thread,
and he was already familiar with them.  If he were here he would post in my thread. :heisenberg:
