sloooow boooooring aaaaawesome games
« on: November 27, 2010, 06:40:25 AM »
my favorite sloooow boooooring games are
(in no particular order)

Sim City 4
i got a save now, which is my best so far. fuck fair play, im using a money cheat, but i am going for a realistic look. i only use 4x4 big "cities" to create my metropolis, and i want most of the landscape to be dominated by vast suburbs, untill the city proper, and finally a conglomeration of skyscrapers, and i am finally getting the hang of specializing each city.
its niiiice and sloooow, BUT i tend to keep it at fast foreward, which despite its slowness doesnt leave much room for lack of attention

Hearts of Iron 2
Slowest game i know. WW2 themed, where the timer can be slowed down to near real-time. imagine that. ww2 hour by hour *drooool*
this is a game SO slow and utterly dull, that i can click play, sit back, roll a joint in peace, smoke the whole thing, and still be at august 1936, watching my troops still marching towards whatever destination i set them to march towards.
Ill sit and flip through map modes, watch weather come and go, listen to the very dramatic ww2-movie-ish music, roll another joint, and slooowly get psyched up for 1939, when its time to go bug finland a little (im always ussr :D  )
(i tried the latest 3rd game, but i felt it lacked some of the charm, but its definitely got potential for even more delicious slowness)

Microsoft Flight Simulator
i CRY that i have never been able to install this, after the first time it randomly fucked up on me. that was an original version on cd-rom even, and it fucked up, and never worked again. could not be uninstalled or re-installed. now w a new computer, and downloaded versions, it still wont work :(
i LOVE MFS...
ill sit in the cockpit, and flick those little flickers up and down, listen to the engine, roll a joint, communicate w the tower, taxi down the runway, aaaaah.... divine
finally its time to throttle up, and i almost squirt my boxers to the awesome sound of the massive jet engines roaring up and up untill i have delayed enough, release the brakes, and take off.
then...
its autopilot
and more joints

Civilization 4
(i havent tried 5), normally not necesarily very slow, but ill always play at a "marathon" setting. that way its niiice and slooooow :)

what are your favorite slooooooooow booooring aaaaaawesome games?

When I talk about games like Fallout I can maintain a modicum of cool. When I talk about these types of games, it just shows what a geek I am

I'd add to the list, Open source Transport Tycoon Deluxe. An old game that is constantly being upgraded.

Football Manager, and Out of the park Baseball.

Yup. I am a geek. A very big geek :-[

OHHHHH

Fallout 2
totally slow! omg how could i forget :D turn-based and all, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

as for FO3, i am too saddened to think about it much. after mucking around and failing w Fallout vegas, my computer has never been quite the same, and FO3 crashes randomly almost constantly. i barely dare touch it anymore :(
but there too, i'd sometimes just play doing nothing, just... being in the ambience :D

and awww football manager :D
i never liked football or any sports, but those manager games always looked so slow and geeky and boring i always felt sortof attracted to them :D "mmm lots of text and boxes and no action, sweeeet"

If there was a Gamers Anonymous, I'd be one of the first members to join.

I am somewhat reformed, but when ocassionally, when I see the Sims icon on my desktop....I get Oh sooooo tempted. Thankfully I don't have the discs anymore and I have to MAKE conscious decisions to avoid anything to do with games. Even posting in this thread is like giving a sip of alcohol to an alcoholic.

I could list the many liaisons I've had with this addiction since I was 15, but it would be unwise....even just talking about it now makes me want to....

Total Annihilation: Online matches always last at least 4-6 hours.

Morrowind: Think there's loads to do in New Vegas or Oblivion? Morrowind makes both games look tiny.

New Vegas is pretty long, even without the sidequests. I like that.

Sims 1 & 2, Simcity 3000... all can suck up an entire day.

Fallout 1 can technically be completed in 10 minutes. :orly:

*tear*

i had it on my previous computer.
did you download the "tamriel rebuilt" fan-made areas? as if morrowind couldnt get any bigger...

i also loved how morrowind much more forces you to walk the distances.
the very first thing to annoy me w oblivion was that from the very beginning, i could simply fast-travel to my next goal. it took half the magic away right there.
(of course w the option right there, i fast travel like a moron... )

i actually have sims 2 somewhere, but im not gonna re-install it on this wobbly computer. but yes, something as lame as re-creating friends of mine, and have them carefully shit out the house, pass out in their shit, for then to set the kitchen on fire, could keep me up nights at the time :I

lmao

I have a strange need to create multiple no job manwhores on Sims2 who get chicks pregnant, then schmooze new chicks while their girlfriend is at work. Then rotate the girlfriends out the house once the babies are born / due.

All are given demeaning names.

I even named the babies after sexual diseases. Although I grew quite fond of Herpes and allowed her to thrive to childhood, but at some point the Child Protection lady probably came.

hahah yes, people dismiss the potential of sims too easily :D
two other favorite activities for my sims is to queue up fistfights untill they piss themselves, pass out, etc :D
also, anyone in the vecinity drops what theyre doing to watch the fight, and so they too will eventually become quite desperate to sleep and eat and stuff :D:D:D

another is to let them eat, and eat, and eat, and queue up toooons of dinners. eventually their whole house is full of dirty dishes and pee-pools, and theyre "calmly" making themselves another dinner, between passing out and stuff :D

btw, something tells me lil ol pentagram is trying to flood my thread ::)
