Yes, a lot of it's misdirection, like with body movements, but with words. Found it. The tv show was called mind control with Derren Brown. Most of the clips found were elaborate, though have seen him do simple stuff on the streets that makes people look stupid. There's a cool video on the web of him hypnotizing a crowd in a mall over the announcement system.
