I still make too many mistakes when learning Latin.  :thumbdn:

My only comfort is that the "ordinary" Roman 2000 years ago probably made many more. One can see pretty gross grammatical mistakes in Roman grafitti, for instance.

And if one, 2000yrs from now, were to judge English by the graffiti now days you'd come to similar conclusions.

Indeed. And to make matters worse, AFAIK, there was no official "grammar" back then.

It's like Middle Egyptian. The hieroglyphs depended not on a single grammar but several, because the written language evolved over time just as the spoken did, and the glyphs reflected the current period rather than a specific grammar. They also changed according to the writer's whims and artistic talent.

If I don't die young, I will learn Latin thoroughly - then I'll learn Greek - probably in the Attic dialect  8)

Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nube.
Nam quae Mars aliis, dat tibi diva Venus.

Others should wage war, you happy Austria marry.
Because what Mars gives others, the divine Venus gives you.

This is from an old Greek myth originally. Protesilaos was the first Greek setting his foot on the attacked mainland and the first to be killed. To comfort his widow, the gods allowed him to share bed with her for three hours. When the three hours had passed, her heart, too, broke, and they were united on the other side. The gods commented their decision thus: Bella gerant alii, Protesilaos amet; Others should make war, Protesilaos should make love :)

Imagine the internet is still functional or accessible in some form 1000 years from now, and some cyber-archaeologist stumbles upon this site to learn something about history and language.  Unfortunately, the only posts that survive come from Richard.

Useless to anyone but me.  I cannot eat potatoes in anything more than a small amount.  My blood sugar spikes.  I ate chili cheese fries and 2 hours later I was zonked out on the bed for 3 hours despite taking my diabetes pill with the meal.  Bummer.

My sex drive goes through the roof when I eat a lot of (raw) fruits and vegetables.

Apparently, my penis is a vegetarian.

Does anything happen to your eyecolor?  I've heard some people say their eyes
change on a diet with lots of raw food, do yours get lighter or clearer?   :nerdy:
