For those in Australia

Are they really going to implement  censorship on the internet there?

It might be in some doubt now, the U.S Government has raised concerns about it, and that could turn into criticism soon enough. After all, they did criticise China too, so what's that show? We're being as bad as China.  :zoinks:
Existence actually has two broad meanings despite its apparent meaningless. The constant reconciliation of all its parts, and the conservation of any closed system as a whole.

Morality can be extrapolated from these meanings to make these two commandments of godless morality: 1). Be in harmony with one another and 2). Care for the environment.

Well hey, I don't want it, don't make it sound like all Australians do. Most of us smarter Aussies know exactly what this censorship will actually lead to.

Personally I think Stephen Conroy is a cunt, and should GTFO the internet forever. He's the communications minister responsible for this retarded idea.

I wouldn't be surprised if I2 is added to the list for me saying that, because that's probably what it'll reduce to if it's implemented.

Besides this bullshit filter system won't stop the criminal activity going on anyway. Most of those transactions occur in protocols and network types not even affected by the filter. Even if they tried to cover them too, the entire infrastructure would be too crippled to function as a result.

Yeah it's complete fucking bullshit. They're citing the good old 'won't someone think of the children' line.

The thing is, it will just drive the child porn people underground even more. They will always find a way.

The list if banned sites will be a secret, but you can trust the government not to abuse that privilege ( :wanker: yeah right)

They are also saying it will bring it in line with our film and tv ratings system (where if they want to ban something, they just have to refuse classification of it because you cannot show or sell something that hasn't been rated by the OFLC).

It's fucked up and I hope it fails before it even gets off the ground.

Which is why I'm hoping that by the U.S showing concern about this filter, it may add pressure to parliament to flat out reject it.

An article I read somewhere had people there speaking out against the US showing concern saying it was their country and none of out business they seemed all for it :-\

Just shows you can't trust the media. Our media only just learnt that the U.S. Gov wasn't in favour of our filter.

Dare try to censor the internet, this is one of the many consequences. :zoinks:
