It is boring on television.   It would be funny if most didn't appreciate what it takes to play soccer, but it is something a lot of kids play.   Just about everyone I know played soccer/football during a part of their life.   It is just boring as fuck to watch.    Golf is more boring though.

Maybe, or if there was actual strategy beyond just zone or man to man defense being played.   I did like playing soccer as a kid, mainly because I was pretty good at it.   On TV it feels like I am watching people pass and intercept passes 90 percent of the time, then every once in a while you see a decent shot on goal.   Soccer also has a lot of flopping, which is annoying.   Acting like you are hurt when you aren't is lame.   I do admit it is smart to get the opposing team's players a yellow or red card, but it still is lame.

If you think there's nothing more to football then kicking the ball around then you don't fully understand it.

Overweight American kids playing "soccer" at school doesn't mean they know football. Anyone can kick a ball.

They are more overweight now than ever.    Soccer does not have the most complex rules.   I had to do passing drills all the damn time when I played.  There aren't that many offensive plays that can be run really.   Being a midfielder was fun, lots of passing and running.
