Looking for a very simple organism with legs, transverses land, and doesn't walk upright.  I plan to model my first AI body after it.  Anybody got a good idea?  It is probably an insect.

Perhaps, i'm not sure.  When you think of a good design for an insect, ant does leap to mind, but this might be untrue, and were lead to believe it because of all the movies and shit made that portray ants as so powerful and efficient.

An insect is the perfect all terrain vehicle. There is a self regulating stability in a three point stance and insects have two of those ... one to stand and balance while another set of three can find the new balance and move forward. It's almost perfect.

Ants are amazing. It's the fact that they are a community and some are specialized in certain functions and their bodies follow the design criteria of their function, that makes them unique. The notion of them as tiny farmers also impresses me.

Actually I am going to go with a mammal, because ants are too inherently stable.  I need to challenge myself with the task of having this thing be able to regulate its own balance and it would be better if it wasnt so stable.  So I am gonna go with a squirrel.

No,  my comment was not based on movies, but, my own observations.  Ants have been around for so long, almost unchanged since the time begore the dinosaurs.  Plus they are one of the most diverse species in the world.  Thats pretty impressive for a land creature.  Now you might also think about Crocodiles and Alligators or even turtles, efficient, but lacking in endurance and long term speed.  But, they inhabit both land and water.  Albeit, a monitor lizard, might be a good form.

I thought of spiders, but, the eight legged function is not as efficient as the 6 legged function, short term speed is there, but, not endurance.  Certain beetles may also serve.

I was thinking about using a mouse skeleton, but their limbs are too short for my purposes.

I've taken a picture of a squirrel skeleton, made a circle and stick overlay of all the imporant joints, now I need to build a 3D model of the skeleton.  Anyone have any ideas about what construction materials to use?  This isn't for functionality, it is just a model to help me visualize where to put sensors and shit.  I'm thinking straws and molding clay.  I wanna make it a lot larger than the robot itself is gonna be just for ease of visualization, so the building materials have to be strong enough to support that.
