Ours too.  Our daughter grabbed the ticket taker by his tie and pulled, so we had to pry her loose and take her home while she begged and begged for another chance.

Oh, wait, that was our next to last trip.  We went to an IMAX movie at the museum of Nature and Science last weekend and it actually went very well.

Well that's why I take the kids on a school day and usually the first session. There is really nobody around.

Went okay. Cost AUD$39 for 2 children and one pensioner in the VMAX cinema (largest screen at the place). This is why I only see movies that I really really want to see at the cinema. Everything else is either download or DVD. Thankfully we have things like DD/DTS surround sound etc these days.

If my kids were prone to freaking out, I would not reward them by taking them to the pictures.
