I prefer to start with testing as a base, add the unstable repositories, then use Synaptic as an apt front end for those helpful warnings like 'upgrading this program will fuck up half your system'. ;)

apt-listbugs is all you need. 99% of the fuck-ups can be avoided. The 1% is inevitable, anyway. :)

Getting ready to shut my machine off and replace the soundcard, once again. I have figured out what my problem was from my earlier attempt to use the M Audio card. The on-board AC '97 circuits were not shutting down, completely, even though I supposedly had them disabled and yet that issue was no problem for the Creative card. Hmmmmm.
